Welcome Guest to beemaster.ca !

Welcome to the Hive Management System. This system helps beekeepers track inspections, monitor colony strength, and plan seasonal activities.

Hive Inspection Checklist

During each inspection, record observations for:

  • Queen presence and laying pattern
  • Brood pattern and development stages
  • Food stores — honey and pollen frames
  • Population strength (frames of bees)
  • Disease and pest signs
  • Equipment condition
  • Space requirements
  • Swarm indicators (queen cells, overcrowding)

Seasonal Management

Spring

  • Clean and inspect equipment after winter
  • Assess colony strength and survival
  • Feed if food stores are low
  • Manage for swarm prevention
  • Add supers as colony expands

Summer

  • Monitor honey flow progress
  • Add honey supers before they are needed
  • Manage ventilation during heat
  • Monitor Varroa mite levels
  • Harvest honey at peak ripeness

Fall

  • Assess and top up food stores
  • Treat for Varroa mites
  • Reduce entrances to prevent robbing
  • Combine weak colonies if needed

Winter

  • Insulate hives appropriately for your climate
  • Ensure adequate upper ventilation
  • Protect from prevailing winds
  • Monitor food stores through winter checks
  • Clear entrances of snow or debris

Hive Records

Keeping detailed records is essential for successful beekeeping. For each hive, track:

  • Queen information — age, source, performance
  • Inspection dates and key findings
  • Treatments applied and dates
  • Feeding records
  • Honey harvest amounts
  • Equipment additions or changes
